We are aware of an issue affecting XMission Fiber customers in West Valley City. UTOPIA has a technician en route to assess the situation. UPDATE, 9:41pm -- UTOPIA has confirmed this is due to a fiber cut, and repairs are expected to take some time. Current ETA is 8am on Saturday, January 24th. Between 12:01 AM to 6:00 AM MST on January 14th, XMission will be re-introducing CGNAT service to our Southern Ute residential customers. Customers can expect service disruption lasting between 5-30 minutes.

Between 12:01 AM to 6:00 AM MST on January 14th, XMission will be replacing some of the power supplies to one of our routers serving UTOPIA PPPoE customers. This maintenance is expected to be non-impacting to customer's Internet service; in the unlikely event of complications, some customers may experience less than 30 minutes of downtime.

Southern Ute Connection Issues Reported

Some Southern Ute customers have reported being unable to connect this morning and they are currently looking into a few things with their network's configuration. They have no further details at this time.

XMission Scheduled Maintenance for Southern Ute Fiber Network 01/14/2026, scheduled 2 weeks ago

Scheduled critical generator maintenance, scheduled 2 weeks ago

From Tuesday, January 13th through Thursday, January 15th, XMission's vendor will perform critical maintenance of one of our two backup power generators. No downtime is expected.

While XMission's data center provides a fully redundant, A+B power infrastructure some customers might not utilize the redundancy in their cabinets so during this maintenance we will have a backup generator on a trailer in a secured location on site that will automatically turn on in the unlikely event of a utility power outage. Virtually all of XMission's network and server infrastructure utilizes both power buses.

The vendor will replace all coolant system hoses, clamps, gaskets, seals, engine belts, air filter, radiator cap, and coolant. This work requires two technicians and has been estimated to take three days to ensure it gets completed. We will be preparing things on Monday and completing tear down on Friday.

The local provider's crews are working to prepare the conuits and fiber. Teams are attempting to pull in slack cable to the handhole for splicing. Due to a steel casing, the process is taking longer than anticipated.

01/06/2026 07:08 PM MST - The local provider has confirmed the damage was caused by vandals. Splicers and repair teams are at the site working to repair the damage. Work is underway to obtain further details regarding which repair step is underway.

The fiber crew and rail company have made progress on finding the buried fiber enclosure that needs to be worked on. No ETR yet, but once they have the final piece of the puzzle we will have another update.

Work is still proceeding on the fiber damage. Due to the proximity to the rail line, there are additional safety precautions that they need to take. No firm ETR.

Crews have arrived and confirmed damage along the railway, and are actively getting the railway company involved. No ETR at this time.

11 AM clarification - There was a crew at the suspected damage site investigating. Since then, they have continued to look for where the damage has occurred. So they are en-route to the new site.
