We have been informed that additional damage has been identified along the span that has pulled the cable at the next splice enclosure down the span. Repair crews have reached a maximum work period and will resume at first light.

Our systems administrators have created a temporary fix. Connections should be up for users in Bozeman, but there may be higher latency.
No further updates on the fiber optic repairs. ETR remains unknown.

The local provider's crews are working to prepare the conuits and fiber. Teams are attempting to pull in slack cable to the handhole for splicing. Due to a steel casing, the process is taking longer than anticipated.

Repairs are still underway. They are moving the location of the fiber enclosure to prevent this from happening again. No ETR.

01/06/2026 07:08 PM MST - The local provider has confirmed the damage was caused by vandals. Splicers and repair teams are at the site working to repair the damage. Work is underway to obtain further details regarding which repair step is underway.

The fiber crew and rail company have made progress on finding the buried fiber enclosure that needs to be worked on. No ETR yet, but once they have the final piece of the puzzle we will have another update.

Work is still proceeding on the fiber damage. Due to the proximity to the rail line, there are additional safety precautions that they need to take. No firm ETR.

Crews have arrived and confirmed damage along the railway, and are actively getting the railway company involved. No ETR at this time.
11 AM clarification -
There was a crew at the suspected damage site investigating. Since then, they have continued to look for where the damage has occurred. So they are en-route to the new site.

Splice and construction crews are still en route but have been delayed due to extreme wind advisories near Casper. Local authorities have warned large vehicles, including splice and construction trailers. We’ll provide an update once crews arrive safely on site.

UPDATE for XMission Fiber customers in Bozeman: Despite N+1 redundancy via Lumen and Zayo, a fiber cut impacted both paths. No ETA yet, but our team is actively bringing a third emergency route online to restore service ASAP. Thank you for your patience.
